WHY DO SO MANY SCHOOLS STILL TAKE THE CHALLENGE?

The answer is simple. Analogy exercises are good brain builders.

In ancient times (when your parents were in school) great recall was key to success.  The kids who easily memorized long lists of material got As, and probably went on to grad school to become doctors, lawyers, etc.

In today's world, strong read/recall talents help, but they aren't close to being enough.   In a quick few seconds anyone - really anyone- can look up dates, facts, data.

More than before, the smart/successful label will be based on what you can do with the information you have. What connections can you make? What relationships can you see among things, and from there, what useful conclusions can you draw?

The query of today is not whether you are smarter than a 5th grader; it's whether you are smarter than a 5th grader with Google.

The WordMasters Analogy Challenge and similar exams provide a great start in thinking beyond the basics, so dive in.

ABOUT THIS SITE

For years teachers and parents have been helping kids prepare for these quizzes armed with little more than index cards and sharpie pens. For some students, these tools were more than enough. For many, they were not.

Luckily, we no longer live in a paper and pencil world. The web is loaded with great resources to help learners of all styles— visual, auditory, kinesthetic, read/write — to achieve success on WMC and similar tests.

The purpose of this site is to provide a list of helpful analogy games and quizzes. Using these fast and fun tools, students can master word definitions quickly and then start to work on their related connections.

(For the record as some of you have asked— We are not officially affiliated with the WordMasters Challenge. We are simply here in support of them and the good work they do for our kids.)
